• Check the breaker series first. On an Eaton panel, most of our kits fit CH panels or BR panels, and only one fits both.
• CH breakers are 3/4″ wide with tan handles. BR breakers are 1″ wide with black handles. That’s the fastest way to tell them apart without the label.
• Then measure the gap between the bottom of the main breaker and the top/bottom of the branch breaker columns. The range runs from no gap at all to more than 6in.

Eaton sells two residential lines. Type CH is the premium line: 3/4″ wide per pole, tan handles, limited lifetime warranty, and still carrying the Cutler-Hammer initials. Type BR is the volume line: 1″ per pole, black handles, standard on a great deal of new construction. The two use different bus designs and don’t interchange, and our kits follow that same hard line. The K-6010, K-6110, K-6112, K-6115, K-6710, K-6715, K-9210 and K-9310 are CH kits. The K-6610, K-6716 and K-9410 are BR kits. Only the K-6510 fits both.

Three more details, and all of them are visible with the door open. Amperage is printed on the main breaker handle, typically 100, 125, 150 or 200, and 300 to 400 on larger BR service panels. The gap is measured from the bottom of the main down to the top of the branch breaker columns; note at the same time whether the main throws horizontally or vertically and whether it sits centered or offset to one side. The catalog number is on the white sticker inside the door: CH and CHP prefixes mean a CH panel, BR and BRP mean a BR panel, while MB, MBE, MBX, MBT, CMB and HP are combination and meter-main enclosures that appear on both sides of the divide.

Most of our Eaton line is built for Type CH panels, and on a 150–200 amp service the gap below the main is what separates them. The K-6010 fits a roughly 1½-inch gap with a horizontal main offset a half inch to the right. At about 2¼ inches you have two options depending on how the main throws: the K-6110 for a vertical main sitting over both breaker columns, and the K-6115 for a vertical main that is ON in the down position. The K-6710 is for a meter main combo that covers a 3¾-inch gap with a horizontal main over a single column, the K-6112 a 4- to 4½-inch gap with a vertical centered main, and the K-6715 a 4¼-inch gap with a horizontal main over a single column that is also a meter main combo. Smaller 100–125 amp CH panels with no gap at all, a horizontal main sitting directly on top of the breaker stack , take either the K-9210 or the K-9310.

Type BR panels have a shorter list. Two of them share a 4¼-inch gap below the main and are told apart by position: the K-6716 has a horizontal main offset ¾ inch to the left, while the K-6717 is identified by branch breakers sitting 2⅜ inches in from the left edge of the panel — a layout you’ll see most often in Georgia and the surrounding states. The K-6610 covers a wider 5¼-inch gap with a horizontal main over a single column. For 100–125 amp BR panels with no gap and a horizontal main sitting on top of the breaker stack, the K-9410 is the match.

One kit crosses the line between the two series: the K-6510 works with either CH or BR breakers on a 150–200 amp panel with a 1¼- to 1½-inch gap below the main and a horizontal throwing main that is always flush or slightly protruding from the panel cover. If your panel matches that description, you don’t need to settle the CH-versus-BR question before ordering.

A few configurations sit outside it. If your breakers are in a single row, typical of meter-main combinations, the K-1315 is the kit. For feed-through panels rated 125 amp and down, the K-9011 fits a main in the top left and the K-9010 a main in the top right. If you need breaker lockout capability, the K-6510 is also available as the lockable KL-6510.
